The William King Museum of Art is proud to announce the official opening of its new wing, the Worrell Gallery, along with its new outdoor area, and the public unveiling of the Worrell Collection of Wildlife art.
Thanks to the generous support of the Anne & Gene Worrell Foundation, visitors will now be able to enjoy a brand new space furnished with a lobby area and a new gallery featuring numerous paintings and sculptures which were collected by Eugene Worrell during his life and which show his love of both art and nature. Boasting over 160 pieces, the Worrell Collection is one of the most significant and largest collections of its kind in the country. The lobby area will feature its own display of artwork by local artist Suzanne Stryk, whose work reflects her deep engagement with the flora and fauna of this region.
Visitors are invited to join us for the first public grand opening on Saturday September 26th. They will be able to get a first glimpse of the collection and explore the museum’s new nature trail and sensory garden, which includes 19 outdoor sculptures from the Worrell Collection. The museum will be offering its first round of regularly scheduled docent-led tours, allowing visitors to learn more about the fascinating history behind the art, the artists and the collection.
