Quilt National

Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, Quilt National returns to the William King Museum of Art. An international juried exhibition of contemporary quilts, this biennial seeks to demonstrate the transformations taking place in the world of quilting. Its purpose in 1979 was, and still is, to carry the definition of quilting far beyond its traditional parameters and to promote quiltmaking as what it has always been — an art form.

Quilt National ’19 celebrates artists that have pushed the boundaries of traditional quiltmaking by utilizing the newest materials and technologies, while maintaining many of the traditional methods of piecing and patching.  The emotionally charged works display a reverence for the lessons taught by the makers of heritage quilts, yet they also fulfil the creative need of the artist to make a uniquely individual statement.

Quilt National is on loan from the Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, OH.
