Objects in Conversation: an extended look into the Betsy K. White Cultural Heritage Collection brings into focus the rich decorative arts and material culture of Southwest Virginia and Northeastern Tennessee. Selections include: furniture, pottery, textiles, garments, metalsmithing, and portraiture. Together, these works illuminate the technical skill, aesthetic sensibilities, and cultural values embedded in everyday and ceremonial objects across generations. This presentation is also conceived in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Virginia’s cultural heritage and statehood. In marking this milestone, the exhibition not only honors the endurance and evolution of artistic practices within the Commonwealth and its neighboring communities, but also reflects on the ongoing processes of preservation, reinterpretation, and stewardship that ensure these traditions remain vital.
