James grew up internationally. He was born in Canada and he lived in Lima Peru, London, England and Sao Paulo, Brazil as well as the USA. He received a BFA from Pratt Institute in 1972. Throughout his life, he has straddled different worlds and cultures, the classics and pop culture, abstract and realistic art. All these varied influences come through in his paintings. He works primarily with realism, but always with a consciousness of the abstract just beneath the surface.

James’ paintings have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions and in galleries. He recently published his own book titled, “The Road to Home” which features 40 newsletters written over the past 10 years along with 130 reproductions of his paintings. This book is a very intimate journey into his creativity and how he approaches life and
art.
James and his wife Debbie recently moved to Tennessee to be closer to their daughter and her family. You can see more of his work at the Griffin Art Gallery in Jonesborough, Tennessee and online at www.griffinartgallery.net.
