Our Unleashing the Wolf VA250 event was a great success. Over the course of the weekend we had a total of 149 visitors.
The weekend kicked off on Friday our terrace with our Unleashing the Wolf sculpture unveiling and the story of Wolf Hills as told by Betsy White. This was followed by a curator-moderated presentation where the sculptors provided an in-depth look at how each sculpture was made. Saturday and Sunday we were graced with two performances each day from the Southern Appalachian Dance Collective performing select pieces from their 2026-2027 season, including excerpts from The Girl and the Raven, based on the appalachian fairytale written by Hugh Belcher. Throughout the weekend visitors also had the opportunity to contribute to our community wolf drawing and create their very own wolf shadow puppet, which were provided by our Youth and Family Department and Art Lab. Visitors also had the chance to enter to win one of our door prizes, which ranged from one year memberships and candles to a stuffed wolf and guided tour. The drawing for these prizes was held on Monday, July 26th.
Thank you to everyone who came out to this fun event! If you missed it, there’s still plenty of time to see the sculptures. They are currently on WKMA’s South Terrace and will be placed on our lower campus when it is completed.
