About

OUR MISSION | William King Museum of Art (WKMA) is a visual arts and cultural heritage museum serving residents of Southwest Virginia & Northeast Tennessee as well as visitors to the area. The museum’s mission is to provide arts education, exhibit fine art, and preserve the region’s cultural heritage. WKMA will maintain its historic facility and accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums.

History & Vision

Our building has a rich history of educating Abingdon residents before becoming the art museum you see today. It continues to serve as an institution of scholarship and education for visitors and students who walk through its art galleries, attend a lecture, or take a class. We envision a future where the past informs the present, fostering a deeper understanding of our shared cultural heritage.

Our People

Our staff members take immense pride in our art museum. Not only are they highly skilled and knowledgeable in their respective fields, but they are also deeply passionate about art and culture, ensuring that every visitor has an enriching and memorable experience. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to curate world-class exhibitions, maintain the integrity of our collections, and provide outstanding educational programs.
